SPREAD

SPREAD is a basement room in Shimokitazawa, a neighbourhood better known for live houses than for clubs — which is part of what makes it distinct. It sits in the Riverstone building on Kitazawa 2-chome, a few minutes from the station.

Two practical things the venue states plainly, and which catch people out:

• The door is cash only. The bar inside takes cashless payment, but the entrance does not. Bring notes.
• There is no cloakroom and there are no coin lockers. Whatever you bring, you carry. If you're coming with a coat or a bag, use the lockers at Shimokitazawa station first.

The room is also rented out during the daytime, so the club programme runs in the evening and overnight. Being off the Yamanote loop, it's easy to reach and slower to leave — worth checking the last train before you settle in.
