Tokyo Clubbing: A Beginner's Guide
Tokyo's club scene is world-class and surprisingly welcoming. Here's how to make the most of a night out.
Where to go
Shibuya is the epicentre — WOMB, CIRCUS and dozens of bars within walking distance. Browse club events in Shibuya tonight. Shinjuku (Kabukicho) hosts the massive ZEROTOKYO.
When nights start
Most clubs open around 11pm and peak after 1am, running until the first trains around 5am. Many people warm up at an izakaya first.
The music
You'll mostly hear house and techno, plus hip-hop, disco and bass nights. Check each event's genre tags before you go.
Practical tips
Bring photo ID (you'll need it), carry cash for entry and coat check, and expect a door charge that often includes a drink.
